NFL insider Ian Rapoport reports that the San Francisco 49ers have signed Detroit Lions restricted free agent tight end Brock Wright to an offer sheet. The Lions have five days to match the offer.

The Lions tendered Wright a first-right-of-refusal contract, guaranteeing him $2.985 million for the 2024 season. No draft compensation is attached to the tender, meaning the 49ers will not be required to part with a pick should the Lions opt not to match the offer.

The Detroit Lions signed Wright (6-5, 250) as an undrafted free agent out of Notre Dame in 2021. He registered 13 receptions for 91 yards and a touchdown in 14 game appearances (four starts) with the Lions last season, per Pro Football Reference. The tight end suffered a broken arm in the Lions’ playoff victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, keeping him out of the NFC Championship Game against San Francisco.

At worst, the move by the 49ers could force another NFC contender to spend more than the nearly $3 million it has already committed to the fourth-year tight end.

Wright, 25, has caught 43 passes for 424 yards and seven touchdowns in 40 game appearances (19 starts) throughout his three NFL seasons. His best statistical season came in 2022 when he hauled in 18 receptions for 216 yards and four touchdowns.
