Steelers Reportedly Meet With Former CB Cameron Sutton In Unexpected Move

The Pittsburgh Steelers need to improve their cornerback room and after two days of the 2024 NFL Draft not making a single move, many may have thought it would make sense to bring back Patrick Peterson on a one-year, team-friendly deal. The front office is certainly in the mood for a reunion, but it may not be with the veteran who is a future Hall of Fame candidate. Embroiled in controversy , former Steelers’ cornerback Cameron Sutton was released by the Detroit Lions after just one season.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported the news early on Saturday morning. It appears as Sutton coming back to the Steel City isn’t as far-fetched of an idea as many may have thought it was.

The Steelers are desperate for help at cornerback, and if Sutton’s legal situation turns out to be less of a concern than previously though, he could absolutely be wearing the black and gold again in 2024. Sutton has 101 professional games to his credit and would be an awesome addition to a secondary that is seriously lacking depth.

Pittsburgh traded Diontae Johnson to the Carolina Panthers and picked up Donte Jackson in return, but the cornerback room is far from solidified. The report from Dulac could be a great reason why the organization failed to draft a player at the position on the first two days of the 2024 NFL Draft. Sutton could, pending his off-the-field situation, be back in the Steel City soon.
