Detroit Lions GM Breaks Silence on Possible Jared Goff Extension

Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes has done a masterful job assembling one of the most exciting young rosters in the NFL over the past several offseasons, and, quarterback Jared Goff has proven instrumental in guiding the Lions to the NFC Championship Game last season and into a legitimate Super Bowl contender.

However, Goff is entering the final year of his contract, with second-year quarterback Hendon Hooker finally fully healthy. Might the Lions be looking to turn the page to the future?

Don’t bet on it, Holmes says.

Brad Holmes Addresses Jared Goff’s Detroit Lions Future

The Lions have already locked up offensive tackle Penai Sewell and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and, it sounds like Goff could be next.

“He’s earned an extension,” Lions general manager Brad Holmes said Thursday during an appearance on 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit. “It’s important, it’s a high priority for us. Both sides are working really, really hard. These things just take time.”

Goff continues to resemble the prospect he was coming out of California as the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft at the helm of the roster Holmes has built with the Detroit Lions.

Last season, Goff passed for 4,575 yards with 30 touchdowns to 12 interceptions, getting the most out of an electrifying core of offensive skill players.
According to Holmes, a contract extension seems like just a matter of time.

“In a perfect world, we would’ve had all three of them done. Bang, bang, bang,” Holmes said of extensions for Sewell, St. Brown and Goff. “But these things just kind of take a while, especially with the quarterback market, but I do have faith that it’s gonna get done.”
