Detroit Lions News: Lions BEST Roster In The NFL, Amon-Ra St. Brown Elite, Cameron Sutton MISSED?

A few weeks ago, Pro Football Focus ranked their best rosters in the league from 1 to 32, listing the Lions as the sixth. And while I personally believe that to be a bit low, it is still fun to contemplate how far this organization has come since general manager Brad Holmes and coach Dan Campbell have come since arriving in Detroit back in 2021.

Top-to-bottom, this team is not only built to win in 2024, but they appear ready to seriously compete for the foreseeable future—something Holmes and Campbell have consistently reiterated about their plans for the franchise.

Lions wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El played in the NFL for a long time. He’s seen a lot of prominent wide receivers in his time, both as teammates and rivals, and how getting paid big money has impacted them.

Now he’s coaching one of them in Amon-Ra St. Brown. The Lions All-Pro earned a contract extension this offseason that made him the highest-paid wide receiver in NFL history. Randle El hasn’t seen St. Brown fall into any of the traps that often snag receivers after they get the big paycheck.

Detroit Lions defensive back Brian Branch could end up being the best draft pick made by general manager Brad Holmes.

Appearing on the “With The First Pick” podcast, Lions special assistant Chris Spielman levied very high praise for the former Alabama Crimson Tide defensive back.

“With Brian, all you had to do was watch the film. The dude was maybe one of the best tacklers that I’ve seen. If a guy did catch a ball, he’d eliminate yards after catch. His coverage, his movement skills, his instincts were off the charts,” said Spielman. “Just a great football player, so nobody cared what he ran. We just knew what we saw against the best competition that was out there, the SEC playing against some of those receivers.

Members of the Lions organization, Lions fans around the world and those who understand that Detroit-style pizza might actually be the best kind of pizza …

This is such a great time to be a Lions fan. Last year in this space, we talked about Detroit’s potential. But Detroit’s had potential previously and, well, things didn’t go so well. It’s the Lions, right? Last season was truly something different. Detroit went out there and lived up to the hype. Now you’re looking at a team that is considered one of the best in the NFL. Under head coach Dan Campbell and general manager Brad Holmes, the Lions have done a great job with personnel decisions. They have been killing it in the draft. And now they are defending division champions for the first time in 30 years. They are bona fide Super Bowl contenders. But can they take that next step? Let’s take a look.

3 players the Detroit Lions will not miss at all in 2024:
-Cam Sutton
-Jonah Jackson
– C.J. Gardner-Johnson
