Detroit Lions Rumors: Jared Goff Disrespect, Lions Super Bowl Prediction? Bold Predictions For 2024

Lions Nation Unite
Over the past two seasons, Goff has ranked second in passing yards and third in passing scores among all quarterbacks en route to ranking as QB10 and QB6 in fantasy football.

Goff is surrounded by one of the best offenses in the league once again this year, with special weapons like tight end Sam LaPorta and wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to throw to. Also, he plays behind the best offensive line in the sport.

There is absolutely zero reason to believe that Goff will fall off this season, and there is actually more to support the idea that he could even best what he’s done in each of the last two years.

Goff will be a top-10 fantasy quarterback in 2024, and the only question is how high he will end up in that top 10.

Tim Twentyman: Lions play in first Super Bowl
The Lions will play in the franchise’s first Super Bowl in February. If they stay healthy, they have the roster, the coaching staff and the continuity to get there. And if they do, Lions fans will completely take over the city of New Orleans.

Dannie Rogers: Lions take long road to Super Bowl
Predicting that the Detroit Lions will play in the Super Bowl is no longer bold, so for mainly entertainment purposes, I predict that Detroit will head down to New Orleans to play in the Super Bowl without being crowned back-to-back NFC north champions.

With weeks still remaining until training camp, the thirst for NFL action grows. Perhaps your fantasy football league has had its initial draft. Perhaps you have made your way-too-early bets on the upcoming MVP or Super Bowl champion. Perhaps you are breaking down the status of the roster for the season to come. Perhaps you have tuned out entirely, waiting patiently amid baseball season.

Yet for today, I want to start the discussion on how the Detroit Lions will fare in 2024. Sure, the predictions are trickling in and the Lions are slated for another successful season, but the early summer is the time for boldness.

Today’s Question of the Day is:

What is your bold prediction for the 2024 Detroit Lions?
My answer: I’ll give three.

Jahmyr Gibbs won’t lead the team in rushing yards or attempts

Many analysts, especially those on the fantasy football side of things, are projecting a big year for Gibbs. While he split touches with David Montgomery last season, he seems destined to take the reins as the focal point of the Lions offense. More carries, more yards, and more points.

I do not necessarily agree with that sentiment. I think the Lions will maintain a similar split as they did in 2023, and for good reason: it worked. Mixing up Gibbs and Montgomery in the rushing attack proved fundamental to the Lions’ success last season. Instead of forcing one player into an expansive role, it allowed the coaching staff to adapt the game plan on a weekly basis—the Lions could choose whether to use a scalpel or a hammer.

I think Gibbs will see an uptick in the passing game—his 316 receiving yards can easily be topped—but I still believe Montgomery will be utilized more often as a pure runner. Get creative with Gibbs, get physical with Montgomery.

At least three roster cuts will join a new team

The toughest part of building a good roster is having to cut good players. When the Lions were rebuilding in 2021, the 53rd player on the roster was below league standards. Now that the Lions have Super Bowl aspirations with a team to match, more of their average-tier players could be on the chopping block. Three names stand out to me as probable cuts and probable waiver claims.

Firstly, guard Kayode Awosika faces stiff competition along the offensive line. He played respectably in dire straits last season, but the line has been bolstered this year. Aside from the obvious starting five, the Lions have the following players in reserve: Awosika, Colby Sorsdal, Dan Skipper, and rookies Giovanni Manu and Christian Mahogany. That alone is 10 players, not even factoring in dark horse candidates like Michael Niese or Netane Muti. Awosika could be a victim of the numbers game, and he would certainly warrant interest on the waiver wire.
