We’ve talked about it a lot here, the Detroit Lions receiver depth is a bit of an issue. One of the big things is that there is a lot of guys competing for the role and so far, nobody is stepping up to claim the spot. Now that Antoine Green is no longer with then Lions, there’s questions about whether or not that changes the way the Lions feel about their guys. Right now it’s simply a waiting game according to Dan Campbell.
“Yeah, it’s still the same as where it’s been at. We’re waiting for somebody to step forward, you know? We’re waiting for anyone of those guys to step forward. We’re dying for somebody to step up and say, ‘Hey, man, I’m your guy. I’ll be the same consistent player every day and find a way to make a play everyday.”
So far there hasn’t been a lot of consistency. Thursday was a rough day for the Lions if they were looking for someone to set themselves apart. Isaiah Williams had a good game on Thursday, but it’s hard to take that as a big thing since it was late in the preseason game.
In terms of who is looking better this week, Campbell said Donovan Peoples-Jones has looked improved since the game. Said he’s been moving faster than he was before. Other than that, Campbell said he was looking to see more from Daurice Fountain, Tre’Quan Smith and Kaden Davis.
