Christian Mahogany to remain on non-football injury list, miss at least four games

The Lions are keeping rookie offensive guard Christian Mahogany (undisclosed illness) on the non-football injury list, per ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

As a result, Mahogany will miss at least the first four games of the season. The Lions open with games against the Rams, Buccaneers, Cardinals and Seahawks. With the Lions having their bye in Week 5, Mahogany’s first game could be the team’s Week 6 game in Dallas against the Cowboys. The Lions can also open a 21-day practice window come Week 5 and give Mahogany three weeks to get healthy and evaluate him on and off the practice field. If, however, the Lions to not activate him after that three-week period, his season would be over.

Mahogany was drafted by the Lions in the sixth round of the 2024 NFL Draft, No. 210 overall. The Boston College product showed plenty of talent but health concerns caused his stock to drop. The hope is that he can get healthy and start getting on board and one day challenge for a starting spot. For now, it’s a waiting game for the rookie.
