The Lions end the Jamal Adams experiment

USA Today

The Jamal Adams era is over in Detroit just as quickly as it started. The Lions released the veteran defender from the practice squad on New Year’s Day.

Adams joined the Lions exactly one month earlier during the peak of Detroit’s defensive injury woes. The three-time Pro Bowler came to Detroit after being released by the Tennessee Titans.

In two games as a practice squad elevation, Adams played sparingly and primarily as a nickel LB. He recorded three tackles between Week 14 and Week 15. The healthy return of Ifeatu Melifonwu, who plays primarily in the same role as a box safety/heavy slot, made Adams expendable.
