Jerry Jacobs injury update: Torn ACL confirmed for Lions rookie cornerback

SideLion Report

Lions rookie cornerback Jerry Jacobs suffered a bad-looking knee injury on Sunday, and on Monday it was confirmed.

Early in Sunday’s 38-10 loss to the Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions rookie cornerback Jerry Jacobs suffered a very serious-looking left knee injury. Having to be helped off the field by two trainers and carted to the locker room, followed by being ruled out for the game almost immediately, all but confirmed his season was over.

Right after the game, head coach Dan Campbell said it didn’t “look good” for Jacobs.

During his Monday press conference, Campbell confirmed what’s at least a torn ACL for Jacobs.

Lions cornerback Jerry Jacobs probably won’t be ready for Week 1 next season

Via Kyle Meinke of MLive, the full extent of Jacobs’ injury is not yet known but he’s expected to be placed on IR this week.

Jacobs posted to Twitter about his injury.

Dear Lions Nation. First and foremost, I want to thank (Lions fans) for welcoming a kid from Atlanta into your hearts and homes,” “Thank you for always showing me love and support even during hard times. Your spirit and words of encouragement is what motivated me to go 110% every play.” “It pains me to announce that I have suffered an ACL injury. This is a minor setback for a major comeback. I can’t wait to get back on the field and play for the best fans in the NFL. Tough times don’t last. Tough people do.”

As Chris Burke of The Athletic pointed to, Jacobs will almost surely not be ready for the start of the 2022 season. Nine months from now would be somewhere around Week 1 of next season, and that’s his rehab timeline. His status for next season as a whole is an automatic question.

This major knee injury is obviously a big setback, but nothing has change in the bigger picture. Jacobs had been a real bright spot out of virtually nowhere for the Lions this season, and he’s definitely got a place in the team’s future.
