Eagles Offense vs. Lions Offense
A key matchup in this game will be the Lions’ wide receivers versus the Eagles “Quote”
CB Amani Oruwariye is a solid outside defensive back. One of his issues though is dealing with speedy wide receivers. Oruwariye will be matched up with Smith who is one of the fastest WRs in the NFL. Oruwariye will have his hands full dealing with what Smith brings on Sunday. CB Jeffrey Okudah has had a solid training camp by winning the No.2 outside CB battle against Will Harris. That is great and all but Brown is a physical WR who brings big play ability to the game. Okudah must be able to hold his own or the Lions’ defense could be torched.
Lions Offense vs. Eagles Defense
To win this game, offensive coordinator Ben Johnson must unleash the Lions’ offensive playbook. QB Jared Goff has a plethora of weapons to give the ball to. WR DJ Chark is schemed to be a player who can break the top off on defenses. There is a high chance he will be matched up with CB Darius Slay. Slay is one of the better CBs in the NFL and Chark must be able to get open under sticky coverage. WR Amon-Ra St. Brown should be a go-to target for Goff. St. Brown can get open in space and should be able to wreak havoc against the Eagles’ Defense.
Contain QB Jalen Hurts
QB Jalen Hurts is a duel threat player and can hurt teams in the passing game and with his legs. When the play breaks down, he can overcome it by running out of the pocket and gaining a large sum of yards. When the Lions played the Eagles in 2021, Hurts ran the ball for over 70 yards resulting in a failure to contain the mobile QB resulting in a miserable 44-6 loss. If the Lions want any chance to win Sunday, they must force Hurts to pass the football and not let him outside of the pocket.
