A look at the Lions future draft assets ahead of the deadline

Yardbarker

We are now less than a week away from the NFL trade deadline. Things have been quiet on all fronts for pretty much every team in the league so far. The Detroit Lions included.

Typically when a trade is made in the NFL, it almost always involves draft picks. It’s just part of the game. Teams love to acquire draft assets when they’re trading players away. I don’t think any other league does it that way. Or at least does it with as much importance on the picks. That might be because NFL Drafts might be deeper than any draft in sports.

With that in mind, I thought I’d make a handy little resource for everyone today. Myself included. Before any of them get moved in a trade, here are the draft picks that the Lions currently have over the course of the next two drafts.

2024

  • 1st round pick
  • 2nd round pick
  • 3rd round pick from the Vikings in the T.J. Hockenson trade
  • 3rd Round pick
  • 4th round pick
  • 6th round pick
  • 7th round pick

The Lions traded their fourth-round pick in this draft to the Vikings in the T.J. Hockenson trade. That pick had a condition attached. The condition was that the Vikings had to win a playoff game in 2023. They did not. So the fourth-round pick reverted to fifth-round pick instead.

2025

  • 1st round pick
  • 2nd round pick
  • 3rd round pick
  • 4th round pick
  • 4th round pick acquired from the Eagles in the De’Andre Swift trade.
  • 5th round pick
  • 6th round pick
  • 7th round pick
  • 7th round pick acquired from the Jets in the Denzel Mims trade

The Lions traded their sixth-round pick to the Jets for receiver Denzel Mims and a seventh-round pick this summer. That sixth-round pick was a conditional pick. The Conditions were that Mims would have to make the Lions 53-man roster. He did not, so the Lions keep their pick and the pick they received from the Jets.

So there you go. This is what the Lions have to offer up to teams this week if they hope to make a trade.
