Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams scored his first career touchdown against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 14.

Jameson Williams scored his first career NFL touchdown in Detroit’s Week 14 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams tore his ACL in last year’s College Football Playoff National Championship Game while playing for the Alabama Crimson Tide. The loss of Williams, in part, would eventually lead the Bama and Nick Saban’s defeat at the hands of the Georgia Bulldogs.

While Williams’ recovery time was just one of the talking points surrounding the Lions eventual selection of him with the No. 12 overall pick in 2021, the speed demon was finally able to make his return to the field last week. Williams first career catch was a 41-yard touchdown, in fitting fashion.

Alabama, Lions fans rejoice after Jameson Williams first touchdown

After such a long layoff and injury recovery time, it’s great to see Jameson Williams back on the playing field and performing at such a high level. He’s a key piece of Detroit’s future, and his link with the potential No. 1 overall pick, Bryce Young, shouldn’t go unnoticed.

Still, Williams ought to be a productive gamebreaker regardless of who is his quarterback. Even with a respectable but middling signal-caller like Jared Goff, Williams can score on any given play.

Williams wanted to have more of an impact last week, but understood the Lions are in a position to build for the future. They’d rather not risk a significant asset by forcing him out there too soon.

“As bad as I wanted to do more, it wasn’t about that. It was about what they said, getting my feet under me and making sure everything was good,” Williams said.

After Williams first touchdown, Detroit Lions and Alabama fans all cheered him on via social media.

There were plenty more where that came from. Suddenly, the Lions have a promising future.
